Armajun acquire NAIDOC artworks completed by talented Ross Hill students

Armajun Aboriginal Health Service has acquired powerful artworks completed by students for the Sapphire Community and District Schools NAIDOC Week Art Competition.

Organised by Louise Walburn and Christina Howard the competition opened up a discussion about this year's theme: Voice. Treaty. Truth. Let's work together for a shared future.

Sharna Sheather and Greg Jerrard attended Ross Hill Public School's assembly on Wednesday to congratulate and deliver prizes for chosen artworks.

This is the second year Armajun have selected acquisition paintings which will hang on the walls of the service to brighten things up and hopefully start a conversation.

Individual students and class artworks were selected this year with Armajun sponsoring prizes to the amazing value of $1060.

Year 4 students Mekaya Livermore's painting titled 'Our Celebration' and Mitchell Woodhouse's work titled 'Do It For All The Kids' were the two individual selections.

Mekaya and Mitchell each received a $30 gift voucher for FDB's to purchase an array of art supplied to further inspire the creative, young artists.

Class 4W's jigsaw piece named 'The Seam Of Gold' and SD/SH's work titled 'Truth Telling For A Shared Future' were the class artworks selected.

The piece by SD and SH was inspired by Richard Bell, a contemporary Gamilaraay artist.

Ross Hill School deputy principal Evelyn Hoey thanked Armajun for their sponsorship and acquisition of artworks, adding funds would go back into the school's art programs.

"This all came about as a way to connect students to the community during NAIDOC Week and create more of a conversation amongst the students," she said.
